• Call for Papers: Special Issue on Data Science in Action in Response to the Outbreak of COVID-19

    Journal of Data Science

Journal of Data Science (; invites submissions for a special issue on Data Science in Action in Response to the Outbreak of COVID-19. The outbreak of COVID-19 that started in Wuhan in December, 2019 has become a global pandemic. Data scientists, along with experts from other fields around the world, fight to address the challenges at this critical moment. Many data have been made publicly available and are being updated on a daily basis. A variety of novel data science applications have appeared to address challenges that are of public health importance as well as of societal, economic, and environmental concerns. This special issue aims to disseminate the contributions after an accelerated review process to the widest audience.

The contributions can be from any branch of data science, including mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, economics, computer science, and engineering, to name but a few, as long as they are relevant to the pandemic of COVID-19. Cutting-edge works in big data, visualization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence are welcome as well as classic methodological and applied works. The contribution can target any of our newly opened sections (Computing in Data Science; Data Science in Action; Tutorials on Data Science Techniques; Education in Data Science) or beyond, of time-sensitivity or lasting impact.

The deadline has been extended to December 30, 2020. All manuscripts submitted must contain original unpublished work that is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. Submitted manuscripts will go through the regular but accelerated (3-4 weeks) review process. Accepted manuscript will be published online immediately. To submit, email a PDF version of your manuscript to Dr. Jun Yan ( and mention the special issue in the cover letter.

Started in 2003, Journal of Data Science publishes research works on a wide range of topics that involve understanding and making effective use of field data. The recently added sections are also calling for submissions. As the whole world fights COVID-19, data scientists rise to make a difference with our skills. We are confidence that the special issue will be a success, reflecting state-of-art data science research and practice. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
